In the Caribbean, our young people face real challenges: limited access to meaningful livelihoods, heavy reliance on food imports, rising concerns around non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and the urgent need to adapt to a changing climate. Yet the same youth hold the greatest potential to create solutions that are homegrown, resilient, and future-proof.
That’s why we created the Grow Healthy Challenge, a youth-led capacity-building movement designed for young people aged 16–29 who are ready to turn passion into purpose. Through hands-on learning in regenerative agriculture, responsible sea moss farming, entrepreneurship, and essential life skills, participants gain the tools to build sustainable livelihoods, contribute to food security, support healthier communities, and drive economic growth right here at home.
Why Now? The Caribbean Opportunity
Across our islands, we see clear needs and clear opportunities:

  • Food import dependency continues to drain foreign exchange while local production lags.
  • Non-communicable diseases remain a major public health challenge, yet nutrient-rich, locally grown foods and wellness products could play a powerful role in prevention.
  • Youth often feel disconnected from agriculture and blue economy opportunities, yet these sectors offer meaningful, climate-resilient careers.
  • Demand for premium sea moss and regenerative produce is growing locally, regionally, and in diaspora markets.

The Grow Healthy Challenge bridges these gaps by empowering young people to become active contributors to the green and blue economy, as innovators, entrepreneurs, and community builders.

What Participants Gain
The program combines practical hybrid, in-person  and online training,  with personal development and practical application.
Participants explore:

  • Regenerative agriculture basics — building healthy soil, using cover crops, composting, and integrated pest management.
  • Responsible sea moss farming — from site selection and cultivation to pre- and post-harvest handling and introductory value-added processing.
  • Entrepreneurship and business skills — turning ideas into viable ventures.
  • Life skills and leadership — developing purpose, resilience, and community impact.

The result?

Young people leave equipped to create sustainable livelihoods, innovate wellness products, support food security, and build stronger, healthier communities.
The Bigger Picture: Partnerships & Impact
We believe the fastest path to scale lies in smart public-private partnerships: government providing policy support, land access, and facilitation; private sector and community organizations delivering innovation, training, and execution. When these forces align, we unlock:

  • Youth jobs and entrepreneurial pathways
  • Reduced food imports and stronger local supply chains
  • Climate-resilient practices that protect our land and sea
  • Community-level donations of fresh produce to support seniors and families affected by NCDs
  • A new generation of leaders proud to invest in Barbados and the wider Caribbean

This is not just training, it’s legacy-building. One youth at a time, one community at a time, one island at a time.
